The origin of collagen

Bovine collagen is a naturally occurring protein in the connective tissues of cattle. It is composed primarily of types I and III collagen, two major forms found abundantly in the human body – notably in skin, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and bones.

This structural protein plays a fundamental role in the strength and elasticity tissues. Like marine collagen, bovine collagen is composed mainly of glycine, proline and hydroxyproline, forming a triple helix that gives tissues their mechanical strength and cohesion.

However, in its native form, this protein is too large to be efficiently absorbed. This is why collagen is hydrolysis: it undergoes controlled enzymatic degradation which allows it to be transformed into shorter peptides. We thus obtain a collagen hydrolyzate, high bioavailability, ready to be assimilated by the body.
